I was raised in NE Johnson County. I am a graduate of Shawnee Mission North. After becoming a certified beer judge and then a home brewer, Jason Leib and I decided to start a brewery in NE Johnson County. I am a founding member of Transport Brewery. There are now a total of 7 owners. We started planning in 2017, and finally found our home in Shawnee in 2018. We opened for business in early 2019.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of running your business in Shawnee? Are there any highlights or milestones that stand out?
It is with great pleasure that we take at least some credit for helping reinvigorate Downtown Shawnee. We have become the type of community-focused establishment we had planned. We are proud to provide an assortment of high-quality, flavorful brews on a continuous basis.
How do you see the future of your business within Shawnee, and are there any local trends or changes that excite you?
The continual redevelopment of Downtown Shawnee is quite satisfying from a community standpoint, but has also allowed us to continue to grow as a business.
How has being part of the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce influenced or supported your business?
The brewery could not have been developed and continued to thrive without the support of the Shawnee Chamber and the City of Shawnee. Specifically, the Chamber has helped in so many ways!
If you could share one piece of advice with a new Chamber member or a new business in Shawnee, what would it be?
All community businesses should not only join the Chamber but should fully participate. It is quite a personally satisfying experience.
Do you have a favorite story about the Chamber?
The range of events offered by the Chamber allows you to be casually involved or be in front of the microphone or on the stage. We all get to pick how we are most comfortable being involved.
