Tell us about your business.
Coleman Worldwide Moving was founded in 1914 in Hutchinson, KS. Our headquarters was moved to Alabama in the late 1980's. We service both commercial and residential moves. We can move you locally, out of state, or even around the world.

We hire college employees every summer to help with our peak demand during the summertime. It is rewarding just knowing we are helping students be able to afford college. More rewarding is seeing what happens to these employees upon graduating. Some stay in the community with great positions. I particularly enjoy it when some of these employees take their first "real" job with Coleman, and we get to watch their careers take off. Longer-tenured summer employees have been able to participate in our intern program, and a few have stayed with the company post-graduation in management roles.

How do you see the future of your business within Shawnee, and are there any local trends or changes that excite you?
We are currently working on increasing the level of commercial work we are servicing. Kansas City is growing at a rapid pace and we would like to grow along with commerce and population in KC.

How has being part of the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce influenced or supported your business? Could you share any specific examples?
We want the Chamber to be successful in recruiting residents and businesses to Shawnee... so that we can move them! We also like being able to network with other members looking for more opportunity. We have moved a few members over the years, some multiple times. Frontier Restoration is one company we have moved multiple times. Greg has been great to work with. We also like helping to deliver the supplies for the Chambers's Annual Dinner.

If you could share one piece of advice with a new Chamber member or a new business in Shawnee, what would it be?
Be patient, the Chamber membership will eventually pay for itself.
Do you have a favorite story about the chamber?
I enjoyed being able to see Ann Smith-Tate at another organization's event as a guest speaker. Ann presented on several upcoming projects throughout Shawnee at the time. This was a commercial coffee hosted by the Kansas City Regional Association of Realtors. It was great to hear how active Shawnee is in recruiting various business types for the different projects.
