Although Family Tree Nursery first opened its Shawnee doors in 1981, the Nelson family's relationship with the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce stretches back even further, all the way to 1970. Founded by Ron Nelson, Family Tree Nursery on Nieman Road is Family Tree Nursery's second location and has grown into one of Kansas City's most treasured local destinations. It is a place where neighbors gather, gardens are inspired, and a warm cup of coffee from Café Equinox is always waiting.

The Nelson name has remained at the heart of the business through every season. Ron's legacy was carried forward by his son, Eric Nelson, and today the nursery is in the hands of the next generation, as brothers Jesse and Jonah Nelson continue to honor the family's tradition of quality, care, and community investment. And while their roots are firmly planted in the KC metro, the Nelsons have also found a way to bring their personality to a whole new audience. Their social media accounts, known for their humor and charm, have grown to over 100,000 followers, proving that a family-owned garden center can have just as much fun online as they do in the greenhouse.

Today, Jesse Nelson's service on the Board of the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce is a fitting tribute to a family that has called Shawnee and Johnson County home for more than 55 years. From the first membership card signed in 1970 to the flourishing business it is today, Family Tree Nursery is proof that the deepest roots produce the strongest branches.
