Mayors Christmas Tree Fund
Shawnee Community Services (SCS) reaches out to individuals in need of help. Their services range from a food pantry, free clothing, Heartland Share (a national volunteer/food co-op program), cash assistance for utilities and prescriptions, community services for schools and corrections and serving as a body of knowledge for those needing an advocate. They have served Shawnee and beyond since 1992.
The Johnson County Christmas Bureau (JCCB) serves the needs of low-income families of Johnson County, Kansas. Groceries, personal care items, children’s clothing, adult and teen gifts, toys, hats, gloves, scarves, books and coats are made available for client selection at the annual Holiday Shop held in December. All items are new with the exception of gently worn coats and books.
Mayor Jeff Meyers is asking the Shawnee community to join the City in their efforts to help in supporting these important organizations. Financial donations are being collected, and a check will be presented to the Johnson County Christmas Bureau and Shawnee Community Services at the Mayor’s Tree Lighting in downtown Shawnee on Saturday, December 7, 2013. The holiday season is a season of giving, so please join us in giving to these organizations which benefits low-income families and individuals at holiday time by providing food and gifts.
