Economic Development Council Hosts Employee Appreciation Event
As a part of our Business Retention & Expansion efforts, the Shawnee Economic Development Council (EDC) hosted an “Employee Appreciation Event” during the week of Labor Day to recognize the impact of the workforce of Shawnee on our economy. Visiting over 20 companies near 83rd & K-7 Highway, the EDC treated more than 250 employees with free ice cream from Frosty Treats truck, coupons from Shawnee businesses, and information on living in Shawnee.
“Our employees were surprised by the visit from chamber and city,” said Tim McKee, general manager of McLane Foodservice. “Our employees were very appreciative. It meant a great deal to the employees to have ice cream, T-shirts and gift bags with items from area businesses. I’ve heard employees talking about using the coupons to eat at a local restaurants.”
Gary Dobbins, president of NCS Precision Manufacturing, Inc. said he has received a lot of positive feedback from employees about the event. “It was a great gesture on the part of the Chamber, the Economic Development Council, the mayor and other city leaders. This type of event, in a casual setting gives employees a hometown feel, shows appreciation and goes over so well.”
Thanks to Shawnee City leaders including Mayor Michelle Distler, City Council members Stephanie Meyer and Brandon Kenig for joining us. The event was sponsored by INTRUST Bank.
