Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
The Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at Shawnee Town Hall recognized the Chamber's dedicated, committee chairs, committee members and volunteers. In addition, two awards were given; one in recognition of the Chamber Star, and the other in recognition of the 2009 Ambassador of the Year.
The Chamber Star Award was developed to recognize a Chamber volunteer who shines with extraordinary measures of service and commitment to the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce. The first award was given in 2007 to Karen Boyd, Johnson County Christmas Bureau, and the second in 2008 to Chris Gorup, Shawnee Mission Ford. The 2009 recipient of the Chamber Star Award is Jean Nelson, Porter Funeral Home and Crematory. Nelson is active in the Chamber, serving on the Shawnee Tomorrow Leadership Steering Committee and the Annual Dinner Committee as well as the Auction Subcommittee.
She is involved in several, city events such as Beauty and the Best, Christmas Around Town, Scarecrow Festival, Shawnee Rotary Club, United Way, Wonderscope Children’s Museum and, of course, she is always there to take care of her grandchildren. The Ambassador of the Year award is given to a Chamber Ambassador who practices extraordinary leadership, service and commitment to the Chamber. The 2009 Ambassador of the Year is Chris Gorup, Shawnee Mission Ford. The Chamber has been fortunate to have Gorup as an Ambassador, Golf Tournament volunteer and Annual Dinner Committee Co-Chair for the past three years. He will always step up when needed for any project, large or small, with the Chamber. For that, we thank you. See photo below, right
