REACTOR design studio inking tons of press!
REACTOR has had a ton of press lately. The company was featured in a story about business cards on the March 6 edition of CBS Sunday Morning, a national news magazine show on CBS with around 5 million viewers! CBS Sunday Morning came to the REACTOR office and filmed their brainstorm and project kick-off meeting with client Journée Lighting.
Co-Owner Clifton Alexander was featured in the American Express Open Forum in late January. Jane Applegate is a well known author and speaker on small business and became smitten with REACTORS business cards when Clifton attended one of her speaking engagements. She wrote a great piece on the AmEx Open Forum about print design and featured REACTOR’s fearless leader. She also has a new book coming out in April that will highlight some Clifton's ideas about business promotion.
The popular AdPulp blog wrote a follow-up story to the Open Forum story by Jane Applegate. The title: Which is Better, An $8.00 Business Card or a $1,000 Suit.
Sarah Benson at Ink Magazine wrote an article about personal branding which also featured some wise words from Clifton (see #5.).
REACTOR will also be featured in an upcoming article in the Business section of the Kansas City Star and Co-Owner Clifton Alexander was recently interviewed by his alma mater, Kansas City Art Institute for an Alumni Profile. Be on the lookout for those, coming soon!
Shawnee Mission Medical Center Critical Care Services Expansion Ribbon-Cutting
| The Shawnee Mission Medical Center hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house Monday, February 28 for its $112 million Critical Care Services Expansion. The seventh floor houses the Progressive Care Unit and the eighth floor houses the Heart & Neuro Vascular Care Unit. Speakers included Samuel H. Turner, Sr., hospital President & CEO; Leah Ridgway, MD, Medical Staff President; Carl Wilkes, Mayor of Merriam and Annabeth Surbaugh, Chairman, Johnson County Board of Commissioners. |
 |
The Critical Care Services Expansion adds 265,000 square feet to Shawnee Mission Medical Center and serves as a high-tech, high-touch sanctuary of wellness for the Kansas City community.
The new tower includes:
- Expanded Emergency Department, with the number of beds nearly doubling from 26 to 40, as well as adding three triage rooms and a decontamination room for patients who have been exposed to chemicals
- 32 acuity-adaptable private beds for cardiology patients, enabling all levels of treatment to take place in one room
- Four new operating rooms
- 28 additional ICU beds
-Advanced technology built into each room
-Bigger rooms to comfortably include large pieces of technology
-Each room includes an area for loved ones to conveniently stay overnight
-Work areas with Internet connection
- GI/Endoscopy laboratory
- 22-bed Post-Anesthesia Care Unit
- 32-bed Ambulatory Care Center
“The Critical Care Services Expansion was constructed to meet community demand and provide additional services to our patients,” said Samuel H. Turner, Sr., hospital President and CEO. “Our upward trend in patient volume illustrates that we continue to be the health care provider of choice in Johnson County and a trusted resource to community members throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area.”
The overall design of the new Critical Care Services Expansion echoes Shawnee Mission Medical Center’s mission of Improving Health Through Christian Service in subtle ways. Light is abundant as sun shines through the massive glass windows. Etched into glass partitions near the Emergency Department, children’s play area and main lobby are prayers for patients, family and the hospital provided by those who work at the hospital. These words serve as silent messages of faith, hope and healing to patients and their families and friends. The chapel, centrally located in the tower, is an open glass area overlooking a garden that offers an inviting space for meditation and reflection.
Even the practical side of the hospital design was made with the comfort of patients and families in mind. Some are small things like dedicated hallways for transportation of patients to assure their privacy. Others, like larger rooms in the Intensive and Cardiac Care Units offer a place for loved ones to spend the night, acknowledge the importance of family in the healing process.
“This project is a culmination of years of planning and hard work by hospital executives, physicians, nurses and associates,” said Turner. “We have listened to the comments of our patients and have involved our medical professionals in the planning process in order to create a new facility that represents quality, innovation and commitment to our community.”
