Shawnee receives Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has given an Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting to the City of Shawnee for its Popular Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2008. The Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting is a prestigious, national award recognizing conformance with the highest standards for preparation of state and local government popular reports.
In order to receive an Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting, a government unit must publish a Popular Annual Financial Report, whose contents conform to program standards of creativity, presentation, understandability and reader appeal.

The Free State Social, a social-networking event

"The Free State Social will highlight the best in social media from our area and put local innovations and ideas on a national - even global - stage," Ben Smith, World Company Social Media Manager, said.
