Morning Coffee

Chamber Ambassador Elaine Copp, Mattes Appraisal Company, Inc., presents the Old Shawnee Days Committee with a gift for hosting a Morning Coffee, Thursday, June 3, at Old Shawnee Town to kickoff Old Shawnee Days!

Old Shawnee Days was from Thursday, June 3, to Sunday, June 6, and featured a variety of business vendors, carnival fun for children, various concerts and exciting contests for all.

Old Shawnee Days is a dear tradition to the community.

Membership Luncheon

Betty Charlton Scholarship recipients as well as Shawnee Tomorrow Leadership Program Class of 2010 graduates were

awarded and acknowledged at the Membership Luncheon, Wednesday, June 9, at Shawnee Town Hall. Thank you to the Luncheon Sponsors, Brotherhood Bank and Trust and Porter Funeral Home and Crematory.

From January to May, business and community leaders participated in the Shawnee Tomorrow Leadership Program of the Chamber. Full-day sessions consisted of topics like Community Involvement Day, State Government Day, City Day, Education day and so on. The renowned program is possible due to dedicated, devoted individuals and the Presenting Sponsor, The Sweet Life. Congratulations to the following, Class of 2010 graduates: Rebecca Bailey, Shawnee Mission Medical Center; Sue Brothers, Mobile Symmetry; Mel Bunting, City of Shawnee; Jami Campbell, Deffenbaugh Industries; Mary Dalton, City of Shawnee; Eric Deeter, Realty Resource of Kansas City; Erin DeSantis; CommunityAmerica Credit Union; Amy Graves, Shawnee Chamber of Commerce; Megan Hardwick, Shawnee Chamber of Commerce; Kyle Hill, tywoo technologies, inc.; Amanda Kristek, The Sweet Life; Shawnee City Council Member Jim Neighbor; Michael Reed, Elecsys Corp; Joshua Reeves, INTRUST Bank, NA; Craig Schieber, Waddell and Reed Financial Advisors; John Waters, John Waters Construction Company; and Danielle Yonker, Bayer HealthCare LLC, Animal Health Division. Graduate Megan Hardwick delivered the graduation speech at the Membership Luncheon.

The scholarship was founded in memory of Betty Charlton, a long-time, Chamber employee, and it awards outstanding,

community, high-school seniors with academic assistance. Scholarship applicants must possess leadership qualities,

community involvement, extra-curricular activities and academic excellence. The scholarship recipients are voted on by a

committee. The 2010 recipients are Chloe Annissa Stacy (left), Mill Valley High School graduate, and Alec Spencer Britt

(right), Shawnee Mission Northwest High School graduate. Congratulations to the both of you and good luck in your future

endeavors!

 

Ribbon Cutting

Staff of Little Monkey Bizness, 12219 Shawnee Mission Parkway, was officially welcomed to the Shawnee community Thursday, June 10, at its Ribbon Cutting!

2010 Chairman of the Board of Directors Tim Harmon, Harmon Construction, Inc., presents CFO Jack Wagner, Shawnee Mission Medical Center, with a gift for hosting a Morning Coffee, Thursday, June 24, at its 9100 W. 74th St. location.

Good conversation and laughs were shared as Chamber members and guests experienced the renovations of SMMC, with accommodating staff sharing new features and services.
