Family, Sweetheart Dance to benefit Haiti, La Petite Academy

La Petite Academy invites you and your family to attend the Sweetheart Dance Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Bacchanalia's Private Dining, 12450 Newton St., Overland Park, Kan. 66213, raising donations to benefit Haiti; 100 percent of the donations will go directly to American Red Cross for relief efforts in Haiti.

The evening is free to attend, with music provided by 95.7 The Vibe's BJ the DJ, dancing, food and drink. Test your luck by purchasing raffle tickets at the event in hopes of winning a prize; prizes will be drawn for and given every hour!

Costco, an event partner, will open all of its Kansas City Metropolitan locations the evening of the event for non-member shopping and collecting donations on behalf of the event.

28th Annual Valentine Gala, Sunflower House

Over the last two decades, many of Kansas City's most influential and respected political, business and social leaders have come together through Sunflower Houses's Valentine Gala to lead the fight against child abuse. Given their collective support, the Valentine Gala has raised more than $2 million for child-abuse prevention and education programs as well as services for children, caregivers and professionals. In one evening, our community comes together to put an end to the abuse and exploitation of our innocent children.

Sunflower House invites you to its 28th Annual Valentine Gala this Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Sheraton Overland Park Hotel, 6100 College Blvd., Overland Park, Kan. 66211. Shawnee Mission Northwest science teacher selected for NASA Endeavor Science Teaching Certificate Project, Hallstrom

Susan Hallstrom, a science teacher at Shawnee Mission Northwest, has been selected from hundreds of applicants nationwide for the prestigious NASA Endeavor Science Teaching Certificate Project, ensuring teachers across the country can use the discoveries NASA makes on a daily basis to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and astronauts. Hallstrom was one of 40 applicants accepted into the program, representing educators from 24 states and Puerto Rico. Meeker will oversee Bayer Animal Health's U.S. manufacturing operations

The Free State Social, a social-networking event

Social media is much more than a fad - it's changing the way the world communicates. The communities in northeast Kansas are at the forefront of this movement and have made the region a hub for innovative technologies and social media use.

Because of this, The World Company is hosting a brand new social media event: The Free State Social.

"The Free State Social will highlight the best in social media from our area and put local innovations and ideas on a national - even global - stage," Ben Smith, World Company Social Media Manager, said. "Our purpose is to educate attendees about the current state of social media, present opportunities for its use and talk about where the industry is headed."
