Great job Mary!

I hate to get the head toooo big, but I do have to give a great big thank you to our Mary Taylor, Vice President of Events & Programs, for the outstanding job she has been doing this entire year. The last three events, the annual golf tournament, the over the back fence luncheon with the KCK Chamber, and the graduation of the 2008 Shawnee Tomorrow leadership class have, I think, been all over the top.

Shawnee Chamber Supports Public Safety Sales Tax

The Shawnee Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors endorsed the renewal and continutation of the quarter cent county wide sales tax for public safety which will appear as a ballot question for the August 5, 2008 priminary election. Originally approved by voters in 2002 the county's portion of the sales tax has previously benefited the local public schools when the State of Kansas fell short of their funding obligation.

Each year, the Shawnee Economic Development Council (SEDC) celebrates Business Appreciation with an event to showcase several area companies for making important contributions to the City's growth during the past year. This year's Business Appreciation Luncheon is scheduled for July 10, 2008, 11:30 A.M. at Shawnee Town Hall, 11600 Johnson Drive.

Well this is a new little update we hope to keep on a regular basis to keep you informed about the activities of the Shawnee Convention & Visitor's Bureau. As someone new to my position, I am quite pleased to report that this is quite an exciting time for Shawnee on hospitality home front.

Spread the word with Member-Serve! Our new Member-Serve direct mail program provides members of the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce an exceptional new marketing opportunity. Up to 15 members each quarter can now distribute their coupons, service information and promotional flyers to our 1400 chamber member representatives. The cost of this service is $190 for a one-page document * (includes postage). Just furnish us with 1400 copies and we'll do the rest.

Shawnee Tomorrow Leadership Program Hosts Graduation Luncheon for 2008 Class

The 2008 class of Shawnee Tomorrow culminated with a luncheon celebration at Parkway West on Friday, June 13, 2008. The group consisted of twenty three members. The 2008 class joins more than 217 previous graduates as alumni of Shawnee Tomorrow. The graduation marks the end of a five-month leadership experience. Eight sessions focused on city, county and state government, economic development, business and industry education, finance and more.

The 2008 Shawnee Business Expo is coming Thursday, October 23, 2008.
