Each year, the Shawnee Economic Development Council celebrates Business Appreciation with an event to showcase several area companies for making important contributions to the City's growth during the past year. This year's Business Appreciation luncheon is scheduled for July 20, 2006, 12:00 noon, at Shawnee Town Hall, 11600 Johnson Drive.

The Census Bureau recently released their population estimates for July 1, 2005. Shawnee's population was estimated at 57,628, a significant increase since April 1, 2000, when the Census reported a population of 47,996.

The Shawnee Chamber will host, along with the ten Chambers of Commerce representing the Johnson County business community, a Republican Primary Gubernatorial Candidate event. The 'Meet the Candidates" reception will be held on July 18th from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Lenexa Conference Center. The August 1 st Primary Election ticket for Governor/Lt. Governor is a full slate with seven candidates. At this time five candidates for Governor have accepted our invitation to attend the reception.

In an effort to meet the needs of small business owners in the area, a business education series, "Resources To Enhance Your Small Business" has been launched by the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce

The Johnson County Public Policy Council will host a reception July 18 from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Lenexa Conference Center for the Republican Primary Candidates for Kansas Governor.
